As we proceed to the next round, our eyes are set on the title of "Product ICT Award for 2023".

What is ICT Award?

The ICT Award is a prestigious award in Nepal, which is given to individuals, innovation and organizations for outstanding achievements and excellence in the field of Information and Communications Technology (ICT). Often termed as "The Biggest Tech AWARD of Nepal", the award recognizes the innovative use of technology, exceptional contributions to the ICT industry, or outstanding products or services in the ICT sector of Nepal. The award is often given by industry organizations, governmental agencies and education institutions that are focused on promoting innovation, technology, and excellence in the field of ICT.

What are the ICT Award Categories?

The ICT Award is categorized into 4 broad categories and 13 sub-categories in total as follows:

1. Category A

a. Startup ICT Award
This award aims to a reward a Tech-Startup incorporated in last four year and has demonstrated exceptional institutional growth, scaled up product and services and diversified its business model and can showcase resilient and exemplary ICT Startup and its prospects in Nepal.

b. Product ICT Award

This award aims to recognize an innovative product that can showcase and lead a positive impact of ICT on business or in the lives of the community. Such products should be from the Tech sector and maybe a software or a hardware or a combination of both.

c. Rising Star and Innovation ICT Award

This award aims to recognize the contribution and innovation made in information technology sector by Youths and Students. Any one who is a full time student OR an individual below 30 years is eligible to apply for this award category and can submit their academic research project or industry innovation to showcase his/her (their) contributions towards the ICT sector of Nepal. However, all the team members should comply the given criteria and the project should not be an R&D Project of any established company.

2. Category B

a. Professional Excellence ICT AWARD

The Professional Excellence ICT Award aims to recognize and honor ICT professional's excellence in their respective domain of professional expertise. This prestigious award recognizes the exemplary contribution of Nepalese ICT professionals who have professionally excelled and have achieved outstanding results in their professional circle, technical community, organizational reputation or society at large. To be eligible, a candidate must have 5 plus years of ICT professional service background in/from Nepal and ideally, s/he should be the key focal person leading the cutting-edge professional innovation in/from Nepal. Any ICT professional can submit nominations for this prestigious award.

b. Pioneer ICT Award

This award is given as an honor to an individual who has made significant contribution towards the promotion and development of the ICT sector. This unveils a personality who may have remained behind the scene but the contributions done by him/her are unprecedented and undisputed. Nepali Veteran ICT pioneer who has contributed to the development of the ICT sector of Nepal or helping it expand technology & services to foreign countries for the past 20 years or more. The nomination form can be filled by the pioneer herself or anyone else.

c. Nepali Diaspora ICT Award

This award acknowledges a person from Nepali origin who has made a remarkable imprint in the international arena and has helped identify Nepal as an internationally competent and resource talent pool in the global arena of ICT. Person from Nepali origin residing and based in foreign countries achieving exemplary feats in the ICT sector.
d. Entrepreneur ICT Award

This award applauds the charisma of the icon ICT Entrepreneur who has energized a whole generation of entrepreneurs. It will recognize their achievement to move ahead and shape the ICT sector of Nepal and abroad. Nepali entrepreneurs with exemplary entrepreneurial success in the ICT sector for more than 7 years is provided with this award. The nomination form can be filled by the Entrepreneur her/himself or nominated by anyone else.
e. Woman Icon ICT Award
This award is presented to a model icon woman leader of the ICT sector in Nepal. The award recognizes and celebrates females contribution in the tech-industry for their remarkable achievement. Woman Icon who has contributed in the ICT sector of Nepal for the past 10 years or more. The nomination form can be filled by the Woman ICON herself or anyone else.

3. Category C

a. Digital Education ICT AWARD (Public Sector)
This award appreciates the achievements of public educational institutions (School/Colleges) for their excellence in implementation and use of ICT in digital education as an effective tool for teaching and learning activities. Public educational institutions(School & Colleges) with exemplary success in the use of ICT in education are eligible to nominate themselves in this category. The nomination form can be filled by the representative from the institution or by any individual.
b. Digital Education ICT AWARD (Private Sector)
This award appreciates the achievements of private educational institutions ( School/Colleges) for their excellence in the implementation and use of ICT in digital education as an effective tool for teaching and learning activities. Private educational institutions(School, Colleges) with exemplary success in the use of ICT in education are eligible to nominate themselves in this category. The nomination form can be filled by the representative of the nominee herself or anyone else. The nomination form can be filled by the representative of the nominee herself or anyone else.
c. Digital Governance ICT Award

This award acknowledges the government organizations involved in promoting, using and enabling digital governance. Public or Government organizations with exemplary success in the use of ICT in digital governance are eligible to nominate themselves in the Public sector category.
d. Digital Services ICT Award

Private Institution/organization or their specialized ICT initiatives showcasing exemplary incorporation, implementation and execution of ICT tools to serve their constituency. This category is targeted for the companies who are non governmental organizations (like bank, insurance, health, agriculture, tourism, telecommunication service provider, Fintech etc), who have been making their services digital friendly for the general public or the service consumers by the use of information and communication technology.

4. Category D

a. South Asia Startup ICT Award 2023

South Asia is an emerging market for tech and innovation. Startups from South Asia championing the world tech market entails to be acknowledged for their contribution. The South Asia Startup ICT Award 2023 is an initiative that forms a part of the broader ICT Award 2023. It specifically aims to recognize and celebrate entrepreneurship in the South Asian region, bringing together innovative ideas and talented individuals from various countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

What is the selection process?

The criteria for winning an ICT Award can vary but often include factors such as the impact of the individual or organization’s work on the ICT industry, the level of innovation, the level of creativity and originality, and the overall quality of the work being recognized.

Every applicant goes through the following five stages for the Startup ICT Award, Product ICT Award, Rising Star Innovation ICT Award 2023, Professional Excellence ICT Award, and South Asia Startup ICT Award:

Stage 1: Call for online applications

Stage 2: After evaluating the documents, the jury shortlists the applicants who have met the criteria
Stage 3: The applicant is asked for an interview, presentations, speed dating, and other requirements if necessary. In one month's time, the top ten get selected. However this time it's top 12, 13 and 14 for Startup ICT Award, Rising Star Innovation ICT Award and Product ICT Award respectively.

Stage 4: Online and SMS voting begins to decide the finalist. Those who didn’t make it to the top five get eliminated. But they are eligible to participate in the public choice ICT Award Category.
Stage 5: Based on the above four stages and field visits of jury team member inputs from the internal evaluation team, the winner is decided by the jury and public voting.
