How Salary Tax Is Calculated in Nepal

Salary tax is worked out on annual taxable salary, then divided by 12 for the monthly deduction.

  1. Add up annual gross salary: 12 months of pay plus bonus and Dashain allowance.
  2. Subtract retirement contributions (SSF, CIT, EPF), capped at Rs 5 lakh or one-third of income, then life insurance (up to Rs 40,000), health insurance (up to Rs 20,000) and any remote-area allowance.
  3. Apply the slabs above to what is left. SSF contributors pay 0% on the first Rs 10 lakh instead of the 1% Social Security Tax.
  4. Resident women with only salary income take 10% off the income tax, though not off the 1% Social Security Tax.
